The President was addressing the special session of the Chhattisgarh assembly here on Friday. She called upon the states to pay more attention to the agro-based industries so that the issue of unemployment can be fairly addressed.

She said that agricultural development should be conducted in such a away that the farmers should be able to keep pace with other sectors of the economy. On the use of mineral resources for development she said that efforts should be made to keep in view the protection of the environment and of the welfare of the forest dwellers. Ms. Patil also called upon the Maoists and others to abjure violence saying that every problem can be solved through dialogue.

Later the President inaugurated the Central Hall of the Chhattisgharh Assembly. She arrived in Raipur on Friday morning on a two days visit to the state.
