Bangladesh has moved a step closer to modernising its air force with the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) signing a letter of intent (LOI) with Italy-based defence firm Leonardo S.p.A. to procure Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role combat aircraft.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate announced the development on Tuesday. The Eurofighter Typhoon, produced by a consortium of the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain, is a fourth-generation jet but is capable of outperforming the US-made F-35 in dogfights due to its speed.
The LOI signing ceremony took place at Air Force Headquarters in the presence of Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan and Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro. Under the LOI, Leonardo will supply Typhoon jets for integration into BAF’s modern multi-role combat fleet for frontline operations. Senior Armed Forces Division officials and representatives from Italy attended the event.
