Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka for an official visit to the United Kingdom and the US on Thursday. During her visit to London Prime Minister Hasina will join in the funeral of Queen Elizabeth in London on September 19. Prior to that, Secretary General of Commonwealth Patricia Scotland will pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister on Friday, Sept. 16. She is also scheduled to hold a meeting with the Minister for South Asia, North Africa, the United Nations and the Commonwealth at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Lord Ahmad of Wimbeldon, reports the official news agency BSS.

Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Labour Party Sir Keir Starmer, will call on her at place of residence on Sept. 17. Prime Minister Hasina will attend the reception programme for the Head of the States/Head of the Governments hosted by the King of the UK at Buckingham Palace on September 18. After attending the funeral programme of the Queen at Westminster AbbeyPrime Minister Hasina will leave for the US on September 19.

In New York, Prime Minister Hasina will attend a reception hosted by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and join the inaugural ceremony of the 77th session of UNGA. She will have bilateral meetings with Filippo Grandi of UNHCR and Slovenian President Borut Pahor. She will also join the UNGA Platform of Women Leaders. At the end of the day, she will attend the reception of US President Joe Biden.

Prime Minister Hasina is also scheduled to meet the Executive President of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Schwab Klaus and join the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) Champions’ Meeting during her stay in the US. Bilateral meetings with Kosovo President Dr Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, Ecuador President Guillermo Lasso Mendoza, are also scheduled to take place during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to New York.

On 23 SeptPrime Minister Hasina is scheduled to deliver her address at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and attend a civic reception by the expatriate Bangladeshis on September 24.
