AMN

Bangladesh Navy has been tuned to a fully fledged ‘three dimensional’ force through inducting two submarines BNS Navajatra and BNS Joyjatra in 2017, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Addressing virtually the winter President Parade of the passing out of the cadets at Bangladesh Naval academy, Prime Minister Hasina said that the government has more plans to enhance the capability of Bangladesh Navy by inducting advanced ships, war equipment and technology, reports the official news agency BSS.

Prime Minister Hasina said that work is underway to build a permanent submarine base with modern facilities at Pekua in Cox’s Bazar to provide safe jetty facilities to submarines and warships at the harbour. She further said that the construction work of the Sher-e-Bangla base has progressed a lot to enhance the operational and communication facilities of the naval vessels in the coastal areas of South Western Bangladesh.

She said the government is implementing infrastructural developments, induction of warships and strengthening of the operational capacity of the existing ships to build the navy as a strong regional force.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has already inducted a significant number of modern warships, helicopters, maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) and submarines to the Bangladesh Navy with the state-of-the-art combat equipment and technology. She said one new MPA from Germany was commissioned to the Aviation Wing of Bangladesh Navy last November, and another one will be inducted next May.

Further, construction of a second hangar with all modern facilities for operation and maintenance of helicopters and MPA is also underway. Khulna Shipyard Limited managed by the Bangladesh Navy has already attained capacity to build Patrol Craft and Large Patrol Craft, said Prime Minister Hasina.

SheikhHasina said that a decision has been taken to build a modern warship at Chattogram Drydock limited which would transform the navy from a ’buyer navy’ to a ‘builder navy’.
