Eminent artists Doly Jahur and Ilias Kanchan will be honoured with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for their contribution to the film Industry in Bangladesh. This was announced in a notification for the National Film Award 2021 issued by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry of Bangladesh on Sunday. The award was announced in 27 categories including the Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress category among others.
Doly Jahur is a film, television and stage actress. Earlier, she received Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress for the film Shonkhonil Karagar and Best Supporting Actress for Ghani. Ilias Kanchan has worked in over 300 films. He won a National Award for his role in the film Parineeta directed by Alamgir Kabir in 1986. He is also known for his work to ensure the safety of pedestrians on city roads. He was awarded with the second-highest civilian award of Bangladesh, Ekushey Padak in 2018.
Lal Moroger Jhuti (Call of the Red Rooster) and Nona Joler Kabbo (The Salt in our waters) will be jointly awarded in the Best Film Category.
Lal Moroger Jhuti is a film against the background of the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh. Directed by Nurul Alam and produced with government grant, the film explores the ‘collective memory of the masses’ during this period.
Nona Joler Kabbo, written and directed by Rezwan Shahriar Sumit weaves the complex story of conflict between tradition and modernity against the backdrop of environmental change through the experience of an artist who decides to live and work in a coastal village.
Rezwan Shahriar Sumit also got the award for Best Director for the film Nona Joler Kabbo. Siam Ahmed and Mir Shabbir Mahmud have been selected for best actor award for their roles in Mridha Bonam Mridha and Raatjaga Fool respectively.
The best actress in leading role award 2021 has been awarded to Ajmeri Haque for the film Rehana Maryam Noor and Tasnova Tamanna for Nona Joler Kabbo.
Afia Tabassum won the best child artiste award for the film Rehana Maryam Noor. Nur. Sujeyo Sham bagged the best music director’s award for the film Joiboti Kannyar Mon.
