The High Commision of India in Bangladesh hosted Ayurveda Day on Sunday at the Chancery premises in Dhaka. Around 85 participants related to Ayurveda and Alternative Medicines attended the event. Important personalities and practitioners of the related fields including Director General Medical Education (DGME) Dr. AKM Amirul Murshed, Vice-Chancellor Hamdard University Prof. Dr. Faruque-Uz-Zaman Chowdhury and Director Homeo and Traditional Medicine Dr. Habibur Rahman attended the event among others. Many Professors, Teachers and Students of Hamdard University and Govt. Unani and Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital, Dhaka, attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion, DGME Dr. Amirul Murshed stressed on higher education like post-graduation and Ph.D., VC Hamdard University called Ayurveda the mother of all medicines.

Around 59 Bangladeshi students have availed of fully paid AYUSH (Ayurveda Yoga Unani Siddha Homeopathy) scholarships provided by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in various Govt. institutions in India, at Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate and PhD levels. But these students have not yet been granted practitioner’s licence in Bangladesh. Speakers on the occasion highlighted this fact to the authorities present.

Second Secretary (Education & Consular) of the High Commission of India to Bangladesh, Rajinder Singh interacted with the participants and students during the event. He stressed upon the importance of Ayurveda and expressed the hope that Ayurveda will continue to grow in Bangladesh and serve the masses in the country.
