Bangladesh has urgently recalled its High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, to Dhaka for consultations amid growing strains with New Delhi. Foreign ministry sources said Hamidullah arrived late Monday night to brief the government on the latest developments.

Diplomatic sources said National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman and Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain held a meeting on Monday to review the situation with India. The high commissioner has been called back to discuss the state of bilateral relations, which the foreign affairs adviser has acknowledged have been under strain for some time.

Tensions worsened following the killing of Sharif Osman of the Inquilab Mancha and the subsequent murder of garment worker Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, incidents that triggered provocative rumours and added to bilateral challenges.
