In view of the continuing surge in Covid 19 in Bangladesh, the government has decided to extend the closure of schools and colleges for two more weeks till Feb. 20. Earlier, the government had announced the closure of educational institutions for two weeks from January 21 till Feb 6.
Schools and colleges had reopened last year in September after remaining closed for close to 18 months. Government announced a special vaccination programme for school students above the age of 12 to allow face to face teaching in the school. However, the new wave of covid 19 pandemic forced the government to close down school and colleges again from Jan. 21.
In the meanwhile, Bangladesh reported 36 deaths and 12,913 new cases of Coronavirus on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 28,461. The positivity rate declined to 27.43 percent from over 29 percent a day earlier.
According to the data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) more than 9.80 crore people have received the first dose of covid 19 vaccine while over 627 crore people received both the doses of the vaccine. A total of over 16 crore people have received the covid vaccine till now.
