A 25-member strong delegation from Bangladesh arrived in Meghalaya on Monday as part of the golden jubilee celebration of the Liberation War of Bangladesh. The delegation consists of 18 liberation war fighters, journalists and people from other professions. During the four day visit between May 9-12, the delegation will meet the Governor, Chief Minister and other senior government officials from Meghalaya.
The delegation is also scheduled to meet senior officers from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Border Security Force who played a pivotal role in training the liberation war fighters and fought shoulder to shoulder during the 1971 liberation war of Bangladesh.
This visit will provide an opportunity for both the members of the Bangladesh delegation and the Indian hosts to relive the moments of 1971 War while deepening the strong people-to-people connect and bonhomie for each other, said the press release issued by the High Commission of India in Dhaka on Monday.
The visit of the Bangladesh delegation comes at an important time as India honours its fallen brave-hearts as part of Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations and Bangladesh celebrates its 50 years of Independence. In the coming months, more visits and interactions are planned by the Government of India as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
