A crude bomb exploded near the car of the Local Government Minister of Bangladesh Tazul Islam last night in Dhaka.
Two policemen, including one escorting the minister, were injured in the incident. Minister was unharmed.
Inspector-General of Police Javed Patwary and Dhaka city Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia visited the site.
The IGP told the media that it was an improvised explosive device (IED). He said that the attack looked similar to two such incidents earlier in May this year targeting policemen in the Gulistan and Malibagh areas of Dhaka.
When asked whether this was a militant attack, Dhaka police spokesperson said they cannot say anything specifically as yet.
