Another prominent Gen Z leader has resigned from Bangladesh’s National Citizen Party (NCP), which emerged from the July 2024 uprising that toppled Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government. Joint Chief Coordinator Khan Muhammad Mursalin announced his resignation from all party posts in a Facebook post on Thursday after submitting a letter to party convener Nahid Islam. “I have been serving as the joint chief coordinator of the NCP… But from today, I have resigned from all posts,”

Mursalin wrote, adding that he was also serving as secretary of the party’s Election Steering Sub-Committee.

In a video message, Mursalin cited disappointment with the party’s direction, saying the core activists of the July uprising were not brought to the centre. He alleged that women who risked their lives during the movement were sidelined and that NCP failed to unite students and the public.

The July Charter, he said, was compromised, weakening the uprising and forcing concessions to old political stakeholders. “I feel NCP’s path has diverged from our mass political current,” he said, adding, “I am resigning, but not retiring from politics. We will continue this long fight on the streets, and In sha Allah, meet again soon.”
