Vice President Hamid Ansari has said that Bangkok is an important pillar of India’s Act East policy. Mr Ansari who arrived at Bangkok today on his second leg of five-day two nation tour to Brunei and Thailand said that as maritime neighbours, both the countries have a shared interest in the security of international sea lanes of communication and commerce, he said.
Mr Ansari was received by the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Prawit Wongswan and many other dignitaries.
Mr Ansari led the delegation level talks with the leaders of the host nation which was led by its Prime Minister. Later, at the banquet hosted by the Thailand Prime Minister, Mr Ansari said Bangkok is an important pillar of India’s Act East policy. As maritime neighbours, both the countries have a shared interest in the security of international sea lanes of communication and commerce, he said.
The warmth in the relationship between India and Thailand has been visible in the reception to Vice President Hamid Ansari and the delegation level talks. The talks helped in forming a roadmap for strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
Thailand is the second largest economy in the ASEAN region and its Look West policy and India’s Act East policy serve as complementary to each other. The current visit of Vice President serves to sustain the high level contacts being maintained to carry forward the bilateral relationship between the two emerging economies.
