
Olympic medallists Saina Nehwal has bowed out of the World Championships in Nanjing, China. She was defeated by Carolina Marin of Spain 6-21,11-21 in the quarterfinals.
Earlier, Saina defeated Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon to enter the last eight and became the first woman in history to reach the quarterfinals of the World Championships eight times in a row.
PV Sindhu and Sai Praneeth are the only other Indians left in the tournament. While Sindhu faces Nozomi Okuhara in the quarter-finals of Women’s singles, Praneeth takes on Japan’s Kento Momota in the last eight of Men’s singles later this evening.
In the Mixed Doubles, pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa lost to the Chinese team of Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong 17-21, 10-21.
