NEW DELHI: (AMN) The Supreme Court has differed Allahabad high court proposed verdict on the Babri Masjid title suit till September 28. A bench comprising Justices R V Raveendran and H L Gokhale stayed the pronouncement of the judgment by the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court scheduled for September 24.
The apex court would now hear the plea on September 28. The Bench also issued notices to all the contesting parties and sought their response to the plea by Ramesh Chand Tripathi, a retired bureaucrat.
The bench observed that even if there was one per cent chance of reconciliation, it should be given “If there are consequences, people will blame the Supreme Court”, the ruling said .
The Supreme Court was hearing a petition by Tripathi, that the Allahabad high court verdict on Ayodhya issue be postponed as it could lead to communal frenzy.
The court made the Centre a party to the hearing by issuing a notice to Attorney General G E Vahanvati and sought his presence on the day of hearing.
A three-judge bench of the Allahabad High Court had on the 17th of this month rejected Tripathi’s petition for deferment and imposed exemplary costs of 50,000 rupees terming his effort for an out-of-court settlement of the dispute as a mischievous attempt.
Congress hails SC order
Congress party on Thursday hailed the Supreme Court’s order saying the party always believed that an out-of-court solution through mutual consensus should be the priority.
Talking to media persons the AICC general secretary and chairman of the media department Janardhan Dwivedi said that the apex court gave the order with good intentions and everybody should welcome it.
