Curfew was relaxed for 3 hours (12 noon to 3 pm) in violence-hit Hailakandi district of Assam Sunday. People rushed to market to buy essential items in the district during this period.

Assam Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said that situation is gradually returning to normalcy in the district. He also said that action would be taken based on the inquiry report into the clash between two groups on Friday.

The minister held a peace meeting with various sections of people. One person lost his life and several others were injured in police action following the clash. Curfew was imposed in the district after the incident.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said Curfew will continue till 7 AM tomorrow. Rapid Action Force personnel have been deployed in Hailakandi Town.
