Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the eve of the State Government’s second anniversary, informed that state government is working to remove the Armed Forces Special Power Act from the remaining 5 districts from the state within this year.
Addressing the media persons in Guwahati today, the Chief Minister said that his government intends to prohibit polygamy through a state act rather than the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Mr. Sarma announced tomorrow he will announce the names of formation of an expert committee who will investigate whether the authority has the legitimacy to prohibit polygamy in the state. State government will also decide to intensify the arrest of child marriage accused.
The CM said that his government is committed for peaceful environment in the state and there are several achievements on this as almost all rebel groups surrendered or on the discussion table with the government. Due to improved law and order situation in the state, crime rates have dropped sharply but conviction rates improved and will setup 5 more POSCO courts very soon, added the Chief Minister.
Tomorrow, Mr. Sarma will launch the CM Ayushman Asom Card and all ration card holders of the state will get the benefit.
The Chief Minister informed that agriculture sector has also improved in the state as the government is procuring rice directly from the farmers. This year State government has procured 5 lakh 25 thousand MT rice and plans to procure 20 lakh MT rice in five years. He also informed that government will start procurement of mustard oil and millets from farmers from this year.
Government has decided to start BSc and MSc Nursing courses in every medical college in the state with one compulsory foreign language and 5 more Sainik schools under the state government fund and administration, informed the Chief Minister.
Earlier in the day, state government signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with ten leading companies anticipating investments worth Rs 8200 crores.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that on the eve of the State Government’s second anniversary, the investment of Rs 8,200 crore will create above 6000 jobs. He thanked the people of Assam for creating an atmosphere friendly for investment.
