At the Hangzhou Asian Games in China, India amassed a total of historic 95 medals, including 22 gold, 34 silver, and 39 bronze. India is currently in fourth place in the medals tally. This is country’s best-ever performance at the Asian Games.

Akashvani correspondent reports that the athletes had a fantastic day today, winning medals in Hockey, Bridge, Sepaktakraw, Archery, and Wrestling. With this, the Indian contingent today added 1 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze to their medals tally.

The Indian men’s hockey team bagged the first gold medal of the day, defeating Japan 5-1. It was a dominant performance from the Indian team, who led 3-0 at halftime. The Japanese team tried to make a comeback in the second half, but India was too strong for them. In Bridge, the Men’s team claimed silver against Hong Kong in the finals.

Earlier in Archery, the men’s recurve team grabbed a silver medal, losing to South Korea in the finals whereas the women’s team clinched bronze after defeating Vietnam in the playoff.

In Sepaktakraw, the Indian women’s team held bronze after losing to Thailand in the semifinals. In Wrestling, India won three bronze medals. Sonam bagged bronze in the women’s freestyle 62kg category, Kiran Bishnoi secured bronze in the women’s freestyle 76kg category, and Aman bagged bronze in the men’s freestyle 57kg category. In a shocking turn of events, Bajrang Punia bowed out without a medal against Japan.

In Badminton, H S Prannoy had to settle for a bronze medal after losing to China’s Li Shi Feng in the semifinals. The duo of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy headed to the finals, defeating Malaysian pair at the semi-final of men’s doubles by 21-12.

In men’s Cricket, India thrashed Bangladesh by 9 wickets in the semi-final and cruises into the finals. India will now face Afghanistan tomorrow.

In Kabaddi, Indian men’s team decimated Pakistani team to make it to the finals while women’s team will clash with Chinese Taipei in the finals tomorrow.

Tomorrow Indian participants will be fighting for several medals. As the Asian games are coming to a near end, the Indian Contingent is cruising swiftly towards its 100-medal target. In a series of social media posts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the athletes for their remarkable performance at the 19th Asian Games and extended his best wishes for future endeavours.
