Former champion Vikas Krishan trashed Pakistan’s Tanveer Ahmed 5-0 to move into the next round of the 75 kg category in the boxing competition at the Asian Games here on Monday.
Two other Indians ,Amit and Dheeraj also chalked out easy wiuns over their rivals to move to the next round while their mate Mohd.Hussain Ud Din was unlucky to have lost the bout narrowly.
Vikas Krishan who won a gold in 60kg category 2010 Asian Games at Guangzhou, made short work of Tanveer Ahmed .
The Pakistani wasted his energy by unnecessary running around in the running and making futile attempts to breach the India’s defence .
Experienced Vikas , preserved his energy and with incisive jabs and punches collected points. Tanveer on the other hand landed his punches all over on Vikas’s body expect where it mattered.
In this process, he managed to hit Vikas below his eye and the Indian had to take medical advice and treatment.
When bout resumed Vikas handed a boxing lesson to his rival and wion the bout without much ado.
In Light fly category Amit also faced not much of a resistance from Mongolian pugilist E.Kharkhuu.
Amit carried far more powerful punches than his rival.The Indian fought a tactical bout allowing rival to attack while he defended well and the process tired the Mongol.
The Indian dominated the bout and won on unanimous verdict of 5-0 .
However the Indians suffered a setback when kin 56 kg another Mongolian boxer Eukh Amar Kharkhuu outpointed Mohd Hussain Ud Din 3-2.
It was a bitterly fought bout in which the Indian had the edge in the first round, but the Mongol regrouped and rallied back to receive a 3-2 verdict in his favoure.
However in the 64 kg bout , Dheeraj brought cheese back in the Indian camp when he punched out Kyrgyzstan’s Nurtan Kobasher 3-0.
“I was in command through out “ said Vikas adding that the minor hit below the eye was not a serious thing. adding “I was very confident of beating Tanveer and which I did”
Amit and Dheeraj were confident of winning the next round “One has to have self belief” they said.
