The army has been pressed into rescue and relief works in flood hit areas as over 3 lakh people were submerged. Defence PRO Sunit Newton said that 2 columns of the army have been deployed in relief operations in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts. Several rivers are maintaining a rising trend for a consecutive third day today.
The army rescued many villagers from inundated areas and provided medical assistance in Lower Assam. 620 villages in 13 districts are reeling under the fury of flood. 85,000 flood hit people are taking shelter at temporary relief camps.
Meanwhile, train services have been resumed in Lower Assam following the completion of restoration works between Chaprakata and Bijni station. Floor water also breached national highways at several places today.
