Advancing cyclone starts ravaging Bangladesh coastlines killing 5

Army has been pressed into service on Friday to rescue flood hit people in Jorhat district of Assam. Official sources said that army along with State Disaster Response Force rescued 1 evacuated 1 thousand people. Overall 1 lakh 12 thousand people from 7 districts have been affected by floodwater.

While situation in Lakhimpur is slightly improved on Friday the, more than 48 thousand people affected in Jorhat due to breach of embankment in Bhogdoi river. More than 1 thousand people have taken shelter at 7 relief camps.

Rescue and relief measures have been taken in Jorhat and Guwahati today. Breach of embankment inundated 20 villages and 600 hectare of agriculture land in Jorhat district. Nearly 1 thousand 300 people have taken shelter at temporary relief camps at Golaghat, Jorhat and Guwahati. Agriculture minister Atul Bora has visited flood hit areas in Golaghat district and assured help to affected people.
