Army denies militancy resurgence in Kashmir

Army today dismissed suggestions that militancy in Kashmir Valley was resurging. General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps Lt General Subrata Saha said this while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar today. Three policemen were killed and two injured in a spate of militant attacks in Kashmir yesterday. Lt Gen Saha said the spurt in militant attacks cannot be termed as resurgence or revival of militancy in the Valley. He said that various agencies will investigate the incident so that people behind these attacks are brought to book.

The senior Army officer said there were around 200 militants active in the Valley but added that intelligence inputs suggest that activity in the launching pads across the Line of Control has increased. He further said that with the melting of snow on upper reaches , Army will have to be more vigilant along the LoC to thwart any attempts of infiltration.

Asked about intelligence inputs warning of militant attacks in Jammu and other parts of the country, the army officer said there were no such reports in respect of Kashmir valley adding the security grid in Kashmir was alert.
