In the aftermath of the insurgent attack on Assam Rifles convoy in Chandel District on Sunday last in which one Junior Commissioned Officer and five soldiers were martyred, General Dalbir Singh, Chief of Army Staff along with Lieutenant General Praveen Bakshi, Army Commander, Eastern Command visited the Assam Rifles battalion near the encounter site today.

In a press release issued last evening, Assam Rifles Public Relations Officer at Imphal said, the Chief of Army Staff interacted with Major General V S Sreenivas, Inspector Geneal of Assam Rifles(South) and Commanding Officer of the battalion.

The Army Chief was briefed on the incident including the combing operations in progress and the measures undertaken to neutralise the insurgent group involved in the attack.

The release further said, the Army Chief stressed on the need to further carry out relentless operations against the insurgent groups active in the region.

He also expressed his condolences to the families of the martyrs and directed the concerned officials to extent all possible support to the families of the martyrs.

The Army Commander has also reiterated that such acts of violence by insurgents strengthen the resolve of the armed forces to continue operations against insurgent groups with an aim to ensure lasting peace and prosperity in the region.
