Ankur Mittal won the Double Trap World title in a shoot-off to earn seventh gold for India in the 52 ISSF World Championship at Changwon, Korea on Saturday.
Ankur shot 140 out of 150 to get into a shoot-off for the title with China’s Yiyang Yang and Slovakia’s Hubert Andrzej.
He then overcame the Chinese 4-3 to emerge triumphant after the Slovakian had missed his second shoot-off clay target to settle for Bronze.
He also won the team Bronze in the event along with compatriots Md. Asab and Shardul Vihaan. Their tally of 409 points coming in behind China’s tally of 410 and the Gold winning team Italy’s tally of 411.
In other events of the day, Anjum Moudgil and Manu Bhaker en missed making the final of their respective events by the narrowest of margins.
Anjum Moudgil, who has already won Silver at the Championship and a Tokyo 2020 quota place for India, shot 1170 in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions qualifying round to place ninth. The top eight make it to the finals. Anjum shot the same score as the eighth placed Nina Christen of Switzerland, but Nina’s 66 inner 10 shots were higher than Anjum’s tally of 56 inner 10s, putting the Swiss ahead in the rankings.
Then Manu Bhaker in the Women’s 25m Pistol, tallied 584 in qualification to finish 10th.
At the end of the second rapid fire qualification round, four shooters, Singapore’s Xiu Hong Teh, Qatar’s Aldana Saad Almubarak, Greece’s Olympic and World Champion in the 10m Air Pistol Anna Korakaki and Manu, were all tied at the same score. However the Singaporean and Qatari made it through as their tally of 22 and 21 iner 10s respectively were better than Anna’s 19 and Manu’s 16.
In women’s 25 m Pistol Rahi Sarnobat fired 579 and Heena Sidhu shot 575 in qualifications to finish to finish 31st and 43rd respectively .In a team event they were placed sixth.
In the Trap Mixed Team Junior event, Manisha Keer and Manavaditya Rathore made it to the six-team final with a qualification score of 139, which placed them second.
They eventually finished fourth however, with a score of 24 in the final. The Italian pair of Erica Sessa and Lorenzo Ferrari won Gold with junior world record score of 42 in the final.
In Women’s 25 Pistol Junior, Arunima Gaur shot 571, Devanshi Rana 569 and Muskan 554 to finish 13th 17th and 38th respectively while in team event they came sixth
In trap mixed junior team event Soumya Gupta/Vivaan Kapoor shot 127 to finish 13th
In double trap men, Md. Asab shot 135 and Shardul Vihaan 134 to out of 150 to be placed 7th and 15th respectively
In 50m rifle 3p women, N. Gaayathri shot 1166 in qualification to finish 22nd. . Team came 10th
After day seven, India have won 20 medals from the World Championship so far, including seven Gold, seven Silver and six Bronze medals. India has also secured two Tokyo 2020 Olympic quotas, making it by far their best performance ever at a Shooting World Championship.
