Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi assured that names of all Indian citizens including indigenous people would find place in the ongoing updation process of National Register of Citizens, NRC.
In a statement issued in Guwahati today, Gogoi said the Register General of India,RGI will have to take steps to ensure that all Indian citizens residing in the State including the indigenous people do not have to undergo harassment during the updation process.
He stressed that the RGI will have to take measures with proper verification to ensure that no foreigners are able to include their names in the NRC. He said that the Assam Government would extend all possible help and cooperation for an error free NRC.
AIR correspondent reports, Union Home minister Rajnath Singh also announced in Guwahati yesterday that interest of any genuine citizens will not be allowed to be hurt during the updation process of the NRC.
The NRC of 1951 is being updated in Assam primarily to detect illegal citizens residing in the state.
