India official broadcasting service the All India Radio (AIR) has completed 80 years of its existence. On this day in 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio.

To mark the 80th anniversary of the world’s largest radio network, the Social Media team started an online campaign, asking people to share their memories, pictures using #80YearsOfAIR.

The campaign received an outstanding response from different sections of people. Congratulating AIR, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore said the public broadcaster is an integral part of the lives of the people and most have an emotional connect with it.

In a series of tweets, Mr Rathore informed that AIR has embarked on an ambitious expansion plan to extend FM coverage to 65 percent of the population of the country for noise free improved sound quality.

He said, AIR reaches more than 99 per cent of India’s population, catering to a wide spectrum of socio-cultural diversity, focusing on Information and Edutainment. Several Cabinet ministers, Chief Ministers and political leaders also greeted AIR on the special occasion.
