Union Minister for Earth Sciences Dr Harshvardhan today unveiled an Air Quality early warning system for Delhi region. The system has been designed with the help of American and Finnish models to predict extreme air pollution levels. It will also give s for necessary actions.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said, with the early information on bad air quality, people can be educated to get well prepared in advance.
On the stubble burning, he said, there has been a decrease in detection of fire incidents as per satellite mapping in Haryana and Punjab. He said, instructions have been issued to monitor stubble burning in these areas on priority.
Dr Harshvardhan also said that Central Pollution Control Board, CPBC, is proactively doing research in adjoining areas and sending reports of affected places to the concerned department. He said, things are improving as compared to the last year’s air quality in Delhi region.
Meanwhile, Secretary in the Ministry, C K Mishra said, steps are being taken to reduce emission from vehicles. He said, the eastern peripheral highway is helping in controlling air pollution.
