At least nine security personnel have been killed and six others wounded in an attack by insurgents. Provincial governor’s spokesman said the insurgents attacked a checkpoint in the western Herat province late yesterday.
He said the attack ignited a gun battle in which around 10 insurgents were also killed and five wounded. He said it was likely to have been carried out by the Taliban, who are active in the district and frequently target security forces and government officials.
