Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat has said that 32 crore Aadhar numbers are linked to Voters ID cards and over 54 crore cards will be linked once Supreme Court gives its verdict on a PIL.
He was speaking at the 14th annual national conference of the Association for Democratic Reforms in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Responding to the allegations of EVM tampering, he noted that any credible complaint will be addressed seriously.
He further informed that booth wise counting will continue, as totaliser machines cannot be used unless the relevant rules are amended. He said, apex court has listed hearing on this issue on March 12th.
The Commissioner denied media reports that the Assembly election in Karnataka will be held around April 15th.
On Paid News, he said, 1800 cases were filed during the past few elections and it is proposed to consider such cases as electoral offences under Representative of People Act.
He also said that the Commission has recommended to the Government to introduce amendments in the electoral laws to ban Government advertisements at least six months before the elections.
