PM: One nation spreading terror in South Asia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the international community to act in unity and respond against terrorism. Intervening in the last session of G-20 summit in Hangzhou, Mr Modi without naming Pakistan, said a single nation in South Asia is spreading agents of terror in the region. Saying that a terrorist is a terrorist, the Prime Minister requested the member nations to isolate and sanction supporters of terrorism.

Mr Modi said, global and public health security is an important issue and there is a need of global partnerships in sharing new vaccines and access to affordable drugs for developing world. The Prime Minister said, the nations also have to safeguard climate justice. He also stressed on the requirement of affordable financing and environmental sound technology for developing countries.

He said, the foremost challenge is Climate Change where Paris Agreement showed the way forward. The focus should not only be on the early ratification of the agreement, but also full success. Mr Modi said, the countries must uphold principles of equity and Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and curb reckless consumption and encourage lifestyles in harmony with nature.

Intervening in the session on More Effective and Efficient Global Economic and Financial Governance the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that fighting corruption, black money and tax evasion is central to effective financial governance. He called for zero tolerance for corruption and black money and zero administrative, policy and treaty loopholes in this area.

He said, G-20 member nations need to act to eliminate safe havens for economic offenders and track down and unconditionally extradite money launderers. Mr Modi also called to break the web of excessive banking secrecy that hides the corrupt.

Prime Minister said, a stable global economic and financial system is imperative for growth. He said, it is essential that capital requirements under the new regulation do not raise the cost of finance. Mr Modi stressed on the need for further strengthening the Global Financial Safety Net. He said, IMF should remain a quota based institution and not depend on borrowed resources.

Participating in another session of G20 summit on Robust International trade and Investment, Mr Modi said, global trading regime must respond to needs and priorities of developing nations. He said, global value chains must provide them level playing field.

The Prime Minister said, knowledge and innovation driven economy requires free mobility and India’s priority is to work towards trade facilitation agreement for services. He urged member countries to fully implement the Bali and Nairobi Ministerial decision on trade facilitation.

Leading discussions on Inclusive and Interconnected Development, Prime Minister emphasized elaborative action over the next 15 years by suggesting specific actions by the countries. To achieve this, he put forth the idea of building partnership between technologically advanced countries and those who need it most. He also called for pooling efforts to share technology in the areas of post-harvest and cold chains.

On the sidelines of G-20 summit in Hangzhou today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral meetings with his British counterpart Theresa May. This was the first bilateral meeting between the two leaders. Briefing media Hangzhou, MEA Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said that both the leaders held discussions on building opportunities. Mr Modi sought the UK Prime Minister’s suggestions on further strengthening the partnership particularly trade and investment ties.

Mr Swarup said, the UK Prime Minister supported PM’s reform agenda and said that UK is keen to participate in Skill India, Make in India and other programmes. Mr Modi also held bilateral talks with French president Francois Hollande where India raised the scorpene submarine leak issue. Mr Modi held bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan where various issues including NSG was discussed. Mr Modi also held bilateral meeting with President of Argentina Mauricio Macri.
