On Sunday, at BJP National Executive meet in Odisha Prime Minister Narendra Modi vouched for upliftment of Muslims saying ‘even Muslim communities have backwards, who are marginalised, and it was the duty of the BJP to take the fruits of development to them’, but on same day his party in Telengana vehemently opposed the government process of development for the community in Telengana.
“In many regions, there are Muslims who are backwards. The party and governments should ensure that they benefit from the new look backward commission which has been given a constitutional status,” PM said while intervening in the discussion.
At the same time BJP legislature in Telangana Assembly were on their feet to vehemently oppose the Bill which was meant to increases the reservations for Scheduled Tribes and backward sections among the Muslim community in government jobs and educational institutions.
All parties, except BJP, backed the Telangana Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutions and of Appointments or Posts in the Services under the State) Bill, 2017.
Such was the BJP’s opposition that Speaker had to suspend all five BJP MLAs for Sunday’s special session as they protested carrying placards and sporting black scarves.
Not only that a large number of BJP leaders and activists had to be detained by the police early on Sunday morning, as a
precautionary measure. Others were arrested when they tried to march towards the Assembly building from different places.
The police tightened security and erected barricades on the roads leading towards the Assembly. Sporadic incidents of scuffles and violence were reported.
Protestors damaged window panes of two buses of state-owned Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) at Afzalgunj in Hyderabad. They also punctured Tyre of a few buses at Ranigunj, Muralidhar Bagh and other areas in the city.
