Eight coaches of Lucknow bound Rajyarani Express were derailed near a bridge over Kosi River in Rampur district this morning. District Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar Chaudhary told media that that there was no causality in the accident yet.

He said, 13 passengers suffered minor injuries and they have been admitted to a local hospital. Due to the derailment, Up and Down rail track is disturbed and rail communication is halted.

Northern railway spokesperson Neeraj Sharma said, the accident happened between Mundapandey and Rampur railway stations. He said, Moradabad Divisional Railway Manager has reached the spot to oversee the rescue and relief operations. A medical team has also reached. Locals are also helping the passengers.

Meanwhile, Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu has ordered an enquiry to look into the cause of the derailment of Rajyarani Express. In a tweet, Mr Prabhu said, strict action will be taken against any lapse.

The Minister said, he is personally monitoring the situation and has directed senior officers to rush to the spot. He also ensured speedy relief and rescue operations.
