Candidates pledge to safeguard state territorial integrity

As the poll round the corner, poll activities have gained momentum in the northeastern state of Manipur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Imphal on Saturday to address a public rally in favour of BJP candidates at Langjing Achouba for the upcoming Assembly election.
The polling for the 60 assembly seats in the state will be held in two phases on March 4 and 8.
Meanwhile Candidates contesting in the March 4 and 8 assembly election today took the pledge to oppose creation of homeland based on ethnic community during a programme organised jointly by the United Committee Manipur (UCM) and Committee of Civil Society Kangleipak (CCSK) at Gandhi memorial hall, Imphal.
Organisers said 83 candidates including MLAs signed the pledge titled “Pledge to the people of Manipur” belonging to various political parties including Congress and the BJP. The only party that did not send any candidate is Naga Peoples Front.
Organisers said 83 candidates signed the pledge. The break up is Congress 9, BJP 22, AIFB 2, CPI (M) 2, Independent 7, NPP 2, PRJA 3, MPP 4, AITC 8, NEIDP 9, NCP 4, CPI 6, LJP 2 and MNDF 3.
Those who signed the pledge include BJP MLA Th Biswajit Singh, former Congress minister and BJP candidate N Biren Singh,Congress MLA Ng Bijoy Singh and Irom Sharmila. No ministers, including chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh did not turn up to take the pledge.
