BJP on Thursday dismissed the Congress claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party President Amit Shah have any link with Mahesh Shah, who had recently declared unaccounted income of over 1,300 crore rupees.

The party dared the opposition party to prove the allegation threatening it will contemplate legal action if Congress continues with such baseless charges.

Talking to media persons in New Delhi, senior party leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the Congress was in the habit of making false allegations as it is upset over government’s action against the black money hoarders and corrupt people.

He also rejected the charges of selective action after the demonetization saying the government is acting against every corrupt person without shielding anyone. Mr. Prasad also denied the reports that Amit Shah has any connection with a co-operative bank in Ahmedabad, where a big amount was reportedly deposited after demonetization.

Another Union Minister Piyush Goyal termed the Congress charges as baseless that three crore rupees were transfered to UP BJP Unit in cash. Saying that the party should learn lesson from repeated defeats in the polls, Mr. Goyal alleged that Congress is adopting hit and run tactics.

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala has alleged close ties between Gujarati businessman Mahesh Champaklal Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah.

A day before the December 30 deadline for the acceptance of old currency, Surjewala asked the PM to apologise to the nation for the “suffering” caused to the people by the note-ban “when he speaks to the nation” on the New Year’s Eve.

Surjewala also linked him and Shah to Ahmedabad-based real estate dealer Mahesh Shah, who voluntarily declared Rs 13,860 crore under the Income Declaration Scheme (IDS).
