Centre assures full cooperation to Bihar in combating naxal activities

At least 10 CRPF commandos were killed in Maoists’ attack in Sondaha forest area near Gaya – Aurangabad in Bihar areas last night.

The personnel of the CRPF, COBRA unit were ambushed after which an encounter started between the two sides, sources said. Three Moaists have also been killed the encounter.

Officials said the casualties may rise as some of the personnel of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) were critically injured in a fierce gunbattle, which was still raging.

The encounter took place as CRPF personnel started combing operation on information of a big assembly of ultras in Madanpur, a heavily Maoist-infested area of Aurangabad. As CRPF and Bihar Police team marched, a group of Maoists, hiding near Dumri Nala ambushed them.

Meanwhile  Centre has assured Bihar government to provide full cooperation to combat naxal activities in the state. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh talked to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on telephone and assured that Centre will leave no stone unturned to tackle naxal menace.

Sources said, Mr. Singh had instructed Director General CRPF to visit Gaya to assess the situation.

Director General of Police P.K.Thakur said that that 5 injured jawans are under going treatment in hospitals of Gaya and Patna.

Besides arms and ammunition AK 47 and mortars were recovered from the maoists. All police stations of Gaya and Aurangabad districts have been put on alert. Anti- maoist operation has also been accelerated. Search operation is being conducted in forest areas of these two districts to nab the maoists.
