Curfew and a shutdown called by the separatists paralysed normal life in Kashmir valley for the 10th consecutive day today.

Officials said that Sunday was the first day without any civilian casualty since the violence engulfed the Valley on July 9, following the killing of Hizb Commander Burhan Wani in a gunfight with the forces on July 8.

“Except for stray incidents of stone pelting at some places, the overall law and order situation remained calm yesterday (Sunday) across the Valley,” a senior police officer said.

Over a week long cycle of violence has left 40 protesters and two policemen dead in Kashmir. All mobile phone services including Internet and call facilities have been snapped across the Valley.

Limited call facility continued on post-paid cell phones provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).All schools, colleges and universities have been closed till July 24.

In view of the prevailing situation, the government has extended the summer vacations in schools and colleges upto 24th of this month. Barring BSNL post-paid telephone and broadband internet services, all private mobile telephone services have been snapped.

Mobile Internet and train services continue to remain suspended across the valley for the past 10 days now. Over one lakh 72 thousand pilgrims had darshan of ice-lingam at Amarnath cave till yesterday evening.
