The KP Oli government in Nepal, has been reduced to a minority as a key coalition partnerCPN Maoist Centre withdrew its support, plunging the Himalayan nation into a political crisis yet again. In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Dahal accused him of failing to honour the past agreements made with it.

CPN Maoist Centre leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara in a press conference today said the party, second-largest group in the coalition government, is pulling back all of its ministers. He claimed the main opposition Nepali Congress has agreed to form the new government underPrachanda. However, sources in the government indicated that Mr Oli is not likely to resign and would rather insist on a floor test in Parliament.

The Maoists tried to unseat Oli in May also but he clung on after reaching a power-sharing deal. Mr Oli came to power in October when the Maoists offered his party parliamentary backing to build a coalition in the impoverished Himalayan country. The Maoists – who ended a decade-long insurgency in 2006 before joining mainstream politics – said Oli had broken promises he made in May.
