Death toll in rain related incidents has crossed fifty in the past one week in Tamil Nadu. North east monsoon has brought in heavy rains in the southern coastal districts including Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli.

Chief Minister Jayalaithaa has announced Rs 4 lakh each compensation to the families of seven people killed in rain related incidents in Cuddalore Krishnagiri and Villupuram districts today.

The Chief Minister had already announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of 36 persons killed in rain related incidents.
Meanwhile,Chennai Met office has forecast heavy rains all over the state as new trough of low pressure formed over South west Andaman will become low pressure by tomorrow.

The north east monsoon rain has intensified in almost all parts of Tamil Nadu bringing in heavy rain especially in coastal districts.

In Namakkal two women were drowned today when they went to bathe in Cauvery river near Kothamangalam.

In Tirunelveli, eleven dams including Ramanadhi Kadanadhi, Karuppanadhi are brimming with water because of heavy rain in western ghats.

The falls in Courtallam are flowing like cascade and tourists are warned not to bath. Brick kilns are flooded in rain and brick production has been affected in Karuppanthurai.

In Kanniyakumari 1000 cusecs water is being released from Pechiparai dam. Flood alert has been issued
or people living in low lying areas Kaliyal, Triparappu, Sitharal, Thikkuruchi and Kuliturai, Maangadu.

Krishnagiri Dam has reached the brim and flood alert has been issued along Then Pennai river banks in Krishnagiri Dharmapuri Tiruvannamalai Cuddalore districts .

In Dharmapuri, flood alert has been issued in low lying areas of Papireddypatty as Vaniyaru Dam has reached its full level.
