Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has said the deep cultural affinity between India and Bangladesh remains a key source of strength in bilateral relations.

The High Commission of India and the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) on Friday celebrated the 77th anniversary of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) as “ICCR Day” at the IGCC premises in Gulshan, marking the enduring cultural partnership between the two countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Verma highlighted ICCR’s role in promoting a vibrant cultural dialogue between India and Bangladesh. He described ICCR as the “cultural heartbeat” of Indian diplomacy, fostering cultural dialogues that transcend borders.

The event featured an art camp by ICCR alumni and senior Bangladeshi artists, along with a special cultural programme comprising music, dance and yoga performances by IGCC students and ICCR alumni from Bangladesh. Acclaimed singer and ICCR scholar Priyanka Gope presented a special performance of Rabindra Sangeet and classical songs.

On the occasion, the high commissioner also inaugurated the two-day art camp, “Sampriti”, hosted by IGCC. The camp brought together more than 30 noted artists and ICCR scholars from Bangladesh, including Farida Zaman, Jamal Ahmed, Md Eunus, Nissar Hossain and Ranjit Das.

The artworks created during the camp will be showcased in a two-week public exhibition at IGCC beginning April 30, the High Commission said on Saturday.
During the event, Verma also paid heartfelt tributes to senior Bangladeshi artist and ICCR scholar Tarun Ghosh, who had accepted the invitation to join the “Sampriti” art camp but passed away on Thursday.
