Cyclone Fengal, prevailing over the South West Bay of Bengal, made its landfall at coast of Tamilnadu and Puducherry on Saturday evening. The landfall began between Mahabalipuram and Puducherry at around 5:30 pm.
According to Balachandran, Regional Head of the Met Department, the Cyclone is moving with a wind speed of 70 to 80 kilometers per hour and gusting up to 90 kilometers per hour tonight. According to Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, heavy rain and high waves, rising up to 3 to 4 meters, are likely to occur along the coast of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and South Andhra Pradesh. Rain is likely to continue till 3rd December.
The Cyclone has brought torrential rains and strong winds to Puducherry, disrupting daily life. Heavy rainfall for over three hours has left roads and low-lying areas waterlogged, forcing vehicles to wade through the inundation. Power outages have been reported in several areas. Residents have been urged to remain indoors. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
