while the AIADMK front in Tamil Nadu uprooted the Karunanidhi regime from the state with three fourth majority.Mamata is all set to storm the Writers building in Kolkata with massive mandate. In Tamil Nadu AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa is set to become Chief Minister for the third time after wresting DMK in the keenly-contested elections in which the 2G scam was a major issue.

 

Following the massive win of her alliance, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee met the Governor and staked her claim to form the Government. Ms. Banerjee has invited TMC allies Congress and SUCI to join her government. Both West Bengal Chief Minister Buddadeb Bhattacharya and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi have resigned following poll debacle of their alliances in the assembly elections. The Governors have asked them to continue till alternative arrangements are made.

In a star performance, the Trinamool Congress alliance has won 222 seats out of 290 results declared so far. The alliance is also leading in three constituencies in the 294 member Assembly in West Bengal. The ruling Left Front put up a poor show winning just 60 seats and leading in one. Chief Minister Buddadeb Bhattacharya lost his Jadhavpur seat to Manish Gupta. Our Correspondent reports that most of the Left front stalwarts lost the election.

In Tamil Nadu, AIADMK’s record performance has seen its alliance partners winning 183 seats, out of 209 results declared so far. The alliance is leading in 20 constituencies in the 234 member assembly. DMK front has won 26 seats and leading in four. Chief Minister Karunanidhi has won the Thiruvarur seat and AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha Srirangam constituency. Prominent losers include Speaker Avadiappan, Ministers Pongalur Palanisamy and Madhivanan. Most of the Ministers have lost the election in Tamil Nadu.

In Puducherry, the N.R. Congress – AIADMK alliance has won an absolute majority. N.R. Congress has won 15 seats and AIADMK five taking the tally of the combine to 20 in the 30 member assembly. The Congress has won seven and DMK two and independent one. Leader of N.R. Congress and former Chief Minister Rangaswamy said that they will decide the date for swearing in of his ministry in Puducherry in a couple of days. Talking to media, he thanked the people for voting his alliance to power and said that they will live up to the expectations of the people. Rangaswamy himself won both the seats from where he had contested.
