Mamata is all set to storm the Writers building in Kolkata with massive mandate. Trinamool Congress alone is leading in 183 seats, well above the halfway mark of 147 that may enable Mamata Banerjee form a government on her own. Her ally Congress was ahead in 36 seats while CPM was ahead in 44.
In Tamil Nadu AIADMK is heading for a landslide victory, having established leads in 194 constituencies in the 234-member House. The ruling DMK front was way behind, leading only in 38 constituencies, as per the latest trends. Most of the ministers including DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan were trailing.
AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa is set to become Chief Minister for the third time in Tamil Nadu after wresting DMK in the keenly-contested elections in which the 2G scam was a major issue. Jayalalithaa and DMK patriarch M Karunandhi were ahead in Srirangam and Tiruvarur respectively.
In Kerala, the Assembly poll results are heading towards a photo finish with the UDF having a slender edge over the LDF. Out of the 122 results available so far, 62 have gone to the Congress led UDF and 60 to the CPIM led LDF. Trends available indicate, both the ruling UDF and the Opposition LDF are neck to neck with LDF leading in 6 while UDF is ahead in 10 constituencies,where counting is in progress . The BJP has not so far been able to open account in the State. The prominent winners include Kerala Chief Minister Achuthanandan, Opposition leader Oommen Chandy and Puducherry Chief Minister Vaithilingam.
In West Bengal, the prominent losers include West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya who lost his Jadhavpur seat to Manish Gupta of Trinamul Congress. The Left Front is facing a major rout in the Left citadel with trends and results show that Trinamul Congress has bagged eighteen seats out of 25 results available so far. The party is also leading in 203 constituencies posing a major set back for the Left Front. The Left Front is leading in 56. Other parties have won one seat and leading in nine. Parash Chandra Adhikari of Forward Bloc and Subhash Naskar of RSP won. Among prominent winners of Trinamul Congress are K.P. Singh Deo from Purulia, Asit Majumdar from Chinsura and Omar Ali from Panskura West. We have a report from our correspondent:
