The extremely severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy over east central Arabian Sea moved nearly north-northeastwards with a speed of 10 kilometres per hour during last six hours. It lay centered about 540 kilometres west of Mumbai, 420 kilometres south-southwest of Porbandar, 460 kilometres south-southwest of Dwarka, 550 kilometres south-southwest of Naliya and 730 kilometres south of Karachi (Pakistan).
It is very likely to move nearly northward till Wednesday morning, then move north northeastwards and cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) around Thursday noon as a very severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 125 to 135 kilometres per hour gusting to 150 kilometres per hour.
Today, gale wind speed reaching 160 to 170 kilometres per hour gusting to 190 kilometres per hour is prevailing over east central Arabian Sea. Squally wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kilometres per hour gusting to 60 kilometres per hour is likely over adjoining areas of westcentral Arabian Sea.
Tomorrow, gale wind speed reaching 150 to 160 kilometres per hour gusting to 180 kilometres per hour is likely to prevail over northeast and adjoining eastcentral Arabian Sea. Squally wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kilometres per hour gusting to 60 kilometres per hour is likely over adjoining areas of westcentral Arabian Sea.
Today, sea condition is likely to be phenomenal over east central and rough over adjoining west central and northeast Arabian Sea. Tomorrow, sea condition is likely to be phenomenal over northeast and adjoining eastcentral Arabian Sea and rough over adjoining westcentral Arabian Sea. Along and off Saurashtra and Kutch coasts, sea conditions likely to be rough to very rough till Wednesday evening and high to phenomenal thereafter till Thursday noon and improve thereafter.
IMD has urged for total suspension of fishing operations over east central, adjoining westcentral and northeast Arabian Sea till Thurday. Those out at sea are advised to return to coast.
Storm surge of about two to three metres above the astronomical tide is likely to inundate the low-lying areas of Kutch, Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagarh and Morbi districts during the time of landfall. Damage expected over Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Morbi, Junagarh and Rajkot districts of Gujarat on Thursday.
The Meteorological Department has warned of very heavy rainfall and strong winds in the coastal areas of Karnataka, Goa and Maharastra due to the impact of severe cyclone Biparjoy storm over east central Arabian Sea. Light to very heavy is expected on June 14 and 15 over the areas of Saurastra, Kutch and Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh and Morbi districts of Gujarat.
Manorama Mohanti, Director of Ahmedabad Meteorological Department informed Akashvani that on 15 June the cyclone is very likely to make crash anywhere in the sea between Mandavi of Kutch to Karachi of Pakistan.
