CM strongly condemns act of Kuki militants

Fresh violence has erupted in several parts of Manipur. Police said that encounters between suspected Kuki militants and security forces took place in far flung areas last night. The exchange of fire was continuing in some places when reports last came in.

According reports Two persons were killed and 12 injured in different instances of firing upon civilians and clashes between militants and security forces, police officials said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh strongly condemned the act of Kuki militants and called them terrorists. Addressing a press conference in Imphal this afternoon, he said the combined forces, including army and paramilitary personnel, intensified operations against the suspected militants. He said the forces gunned down around forty Kuki militants who tried to set ablaze abandoned houses and fire indiscriminately on general public.

In Kakching district, suspected Kuki militants set ablaze around 250 houses of two valley villages last night. The stranded homeless people have been taking shelter at the residence of local MLA, and the security forces have already been sent to rescue the people.

The district administrations of valley districts shortened the relaxation of curfew today and imposed an indefinite public curfew immediately.
