Rising Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz shocked world number one Novak Djokovic in a three-set thriller to reach the Madrid Open final yesterday. Claiming his first-ever win over a reigning world number one, the 19-year-old Spaniard overcame Djokovic in the men’s singles semifinal.

He will now face German defending champion Alexander Zverev or Greek fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in today’s final.

Alcarez becomes the first player to beat 21-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal and 20-time major winner Djokovic on consecutive days on a clay court.

In women’s singles, World No. 10 Ons Jabeur clinched her historic Madrid open title after beating Jessica Pegula 7-6, 6-0, 6-2. She is the first-ever Arab player to win a WTA title.
