Legendary badminton player Nandkumar Mahadev Natekar popularly known as Nandu Natekar passed away today early morning in Pune. In a career spanning 15 years, Natekar won over 100 national and international titles including six times national singles title. Natekar was the first Indian badminton to win an international title in 1956. He was also the first Indian sportsman to receive the Arjuna Award.
President Ram Nath Kovind has expressed grief on the demise of legendary badminton player Nandu Natekar. In a tweet, he said, in the passing of Nandu Natekar, India has lost one of its sporting pioneers. Mr Kovind said, a great player, he brought international recognition to Indian badminton. He said, honoured with the Arjuna Award, Nandu Natekar mentored and inspired generations of sportspersons. He expressed condolences to his family and admirers.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has condoled the demise of iconic badminton player Nandu Natekar. In a tweet, he said, Natekar made an invaluable contribution to Indian Badminton and won over 100 national and international titles. Mr Naidu expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid condolences on the demise of Nandu Natekar. He said that Nandu Natekar has a special place in India’s sporting history. Mr. Modi said that he was an outstanding badminton player and a great mentor. Mr. Modi added that his success continues to motivate budding athletes.
