84 lakh people spread over 16 districts are sill reeling under the impact of floods

THE RECENT floods in Bihar have destroyed, standing crops spread over seven lakh fifty thousand hectares in 20 districts of the state.
Water level of Ganga, Bagmati and Gandak is flowing above danger mark. Meanwhile, Met Department has predicted mild to moderate rainfall in catchment areas of rivers in north Bihar in next 24 hours.
Agriculture Minister Prem Kumar told mdia that a compensation of thirty thousand five hundred rupees per hectare will be given to farmers in the flood-ravaged areas.
Compensation will be given to those farmers whose 33 per cent crops were destroyed in devastating floods.
Maximum crops have been damaged in Muzaffarpur, East Champaran and Darbhanga districts of the state. Standing crops paddy and maize have been destroyed in these districts.The Agriculture Minister said, free seeds of alternative crops will be distributed among farmers in the flood-affected areas.
Meanwhile, over 83 lakh 50 thousand people spread over 1,333 Panchayats of 16 districts are reeling under the impact of floods. In all, 38 people have lost their lives in flood-related incidents in the last 24 hours. Twenty one teams of NDRF and SDRF are carrying out relief and rescue operations. Over Five lakh 50 thousand people have been evacuated so far and five thousand people have taken shelter in relief camps. Total 119 community kitchen centres have been set up in affected areas to provide food to affected people.
