The insasant rains have badly hit normal lives of Mumbaikars with water logged roads and disruption in train services. “With heavy rains lashing Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, it was a soggy morning for office goers and students, most of whom were left stranded across the various railway stations on Central and Western line. Many suburban trains were short terminated or cancelled as railway tracks between Sion and Matunga stations on the Central line remained submerged for over two hours while an overhead wire was damaged at Marine Lines on the western route.
Besides, in view of the heavy rains in Mumbai’s neighbouring Palghar district and derailment of goods train near Karjat, as many as 17 long-distance trains of the Western Railway and more than 10 of the Central Railway remained cancelled today.
However, two days of heavy rains, about 550 mm has helped the city surpass its average rainfall for June. In Raigad too, heavy downpour has resulted in many rivers like Kundalika and Amba flowing above the danger mark. Heavy rains have also been reported from Sangli and Solapur region. While rains have taken a breather, the Indian Metrological Department has predicted widespread rains over the next two days.
