A BJP delegation today approached the Election Commission over the issue of alleged use of money power by the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh where the elections for Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly are being held simultaneously.
Talking to media after the meeting, party leader GVL Narasimha alleged that TDP was using money power to get an unfair advantage in the election. He said, the BJP has urged the Commission to keep a close watch over the money being spent by the TDP and also appoint special expenditure observer for the State.
Mr Rao said, the BJP also reiterated its demand to declare West Bengal as a sensitive state as the ruling TMC is allegedly stalling the party’s poll programme in the State.
On the other hand, Congress approached the Election Commission seeking to defer the release of the biopic based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A party delegation led by senior party leader Kapil Sibal met the poll panel in New Delhi over the issue.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Sibal said the film on Mr. Modi, to be screened just days before Lok Sabha elections and its purpose is political.
He alleged that the producers and actor of the movie belong to the ruling BJP and its director was involved in Vibrant Gujarat.
He said the party has urged the Commission not to allow the release of the film as this is violative of poll norms and affects the level playing field in the elections.
The film is scheduled for screening on the 5th of next month.
