The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has expressed its satisfaction over Draft of e-Commerce Policy released by the Government today inviting suggestions and comments from stakeholders. CAIT was actively demanding an e-Commerce Policy for a long time.
As a first reaction to the draft, CAIT National President Mr. B.C.Bhartia and Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal while welcoming the step said that it was much desired since a long time as the e commerce business was greatly vitiated by e Commerce global players. The draft of e Commerce Policy looks to be innovative and good but at the same time several things have been left out.
Both Mr. Bhartia and Mr. Khandelwal said that the policy speaks encouragement for retail exports. There are Lot of solutions, Landmark decisions but Lot of things left out which may create Lot of new problem.
Some red herrings need to get changed. First things first, this policy is putting everything on Standing Group of Secretaries and DPIIT Instead this should be through a Committee headed by peoples representative and comprising of stakeholders , so that the workings are answerable to people and parliament. The e Commerce Policy should provide substantial platform for business. The policy seems to be silent on domestic e Commerce players which is undesirable. They should also be brought under the policy.
The last date of filing suggestions is 9th March,2019. The CAIT in a communication to trade federations and Associations have asked them to submit their objections and suggestions before due date. However, the CAIT will submit an exhaustive set of objections and suggestions very soon.
