Northern Command Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh has said that the fight against terrorism has now entered an important phase.
He said in the hinterland too, Indian Army has developed effective counter terrorism capabilities and the collective efforts have yielded notable success. Addressing media persons at Northern Command’s investiture ceremony at Udhampur today, the GOC-in-C said that the state of Jammu and Kashmir is passing through a progressive yet a very challenging phase.
The Northern Army Commander said that while on one hand, J&K state is steadily moving onto a path of progress, be it infrastructure or growth, yet on the other hand, the state has suffered considerable hindrance due to terrorism for the last three decades, aided and abetted from across the border.
The Northern Army Commander said that 16 camps of terrorists are active in Pak Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan adding a number of terrorists are undergoing training in these camps. He said three hundred terrorists are active in North Kashmir while fifty are in South Kashmir.
Earlier, Northern Command Army Commander presented Gallantry as well as distinguished service awards to officers and other ranks and next kin in a solemn investiture ceremony.
The list of awardees also includes Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani’ who has been awarded the Nation’s highest peace time Gallantry award, “Ashok Chakra” on Republic day posthumously.
Nazir Ahmad Wani’ was conferred the Bar to Sena Medal (Gallantry) which was received by his wife on his behalf.
